Job Summary
Assist teachers with instructional, clerical, student management, and daily life activities for special education students in special education or general classrooms. Provide 1:1 support for students with mild mental disability and supervise students in community settings. Work hours align with the school year, typically between 7:15am and 3:30pm. Requires a high school diploma or GED and strong office, computer, and communication skills, plus the ability to relate well with students, staff, and parents. Must be willing to participate in training provided by the Special Education Department and to meet the changing needs of students. Benefits include paid holidays, PTO, life insurance, optional direct primary care plan, and other supplemental benefits; for positions over 6 hours/day, a public pension is provided.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Prefer candidate who has previous experience working with students with special needs
- Must be flexible to meet changing needs of students
- Strong tutorial skills
- Ability to relate well with students, staff and parents
- Positive attitude and ability to complete tasks independently
- Strong office, computer, and oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of child guidance principles and practices
- Basic instructional methods and techniques
- Willingness to supervise students in community settings
- Must participate in training provided by Special Education Department
- Hours: 7:15am to 3:30pm; school-year schedule
