Job Summary
Greet customers, handle inquiries, and process new written and telephoned prescription orders at the discretion of the supervising pharmacist. Assist pharmacists in preparing drug products for dispensing, affixing labels, submitting insurance claims, and filing dispensed prescriptions. Maintain accurate patient information, order and stock supplies, perform cash transactions, and administer vaccines where certified. Ensure the pharmacy remains clean and confidential while adhering to all statutes, regulations, and store policies. Report medication errors immediately and assist in other store areas as assigned. Night and weekend shifts required with on-call rotation.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Working toward licensed technician certification through a certified national program
- Vaccination certification required if administering vaccines, as required by law
- Ability to frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in the pharmacy and dispensing area, including extended periods at a pharmacy counter or workstation while filling and processing prescriptions
- Ability to count, pour, package, and label medications, and fill prescriptions under pharmacist supervision, in accordance with state and federal pharmacy regulations
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and sharps (needles, lancets) associated with pharmacy operations and, where certified, immunization administration
- Ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties
- Ability to apply logical and scientific thinking to solve problems involving both abstract and concrete variables
- Ability to perform arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric calculations accurately
- Ability to compose original correspondence, follow technical manuals, and evaluate technical data
- Ability to counsel and advise customers and interact professionally with patients, healthcare providers, and team members
- Ability to maintain a high level of discretion and integrity when handling confidential patient information
- Night & Weekend Shifts Required
- Ability to report to work when scheduled and on time
- Adherence to all statutes and regulations pertaining to a pharmacy technician
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of customers' private medical information in accordance with HIPAA
