Job Summary
Conduct preliminary eye examinations and measurements, prepare patients for physician exams, and administer topical or oral medications under direction. Review patient charts for accuracy, ensure consent forms are complete, and assist with in-office procedures and diagnostic testing. Schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments, act as scribe for electronic records, and follow up on diagnostic tests. Maintain exam room cleanliness, stock supplies, and assist in training other assistants. This role involves floating between multiple locations as needed, with work assignments subject to short-notice changes. Fluency in Spanish is required.
Required Qualifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Uncertified Ophthalmic Assistants must obtain JCAHPO (COA, COT, or COMT) certification within 1 year of employment
- Minimum 1-2 years' experience working with ophthalmologist
- Bilingual Spanish
- Must meet and adhere to HEA's policies and procedures
- Uphold to the highest ethical principles and patient confidentiality
- Complies with all State and Federal regulations
- Must be able to travel between HEA locations
- Work location and/or department may be assigned at short notice
