Job Summary
Safely operate vacuum excavation equipment for hydro or air excavation to expose underground utilities, trench, pothole, and remove debris while minimizing risk to existing infrastructure. Maintain constant awareness of job site conditions, coordinate with supervisors and crews to execute daily tasks, and assist with general labor duties when needed. Inspect and maintain vac truck systems, perform routine mechanical troubleshooting, and conduct daily pre- and post-trip inspections with all required documentation. Ensure proper material disposal, maintain accurate work logs, and uphold company safety policies and OSHA guidelines. Work long hours including day, night, and weekend shifts in varying weather conditions. Whitaker Construction, an ESOP company with over 70 years of experience, performs heavy civil and utility projects across Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, and Oregon.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver's license
- Current medical card
- Ability to maintain company driving privileges
- Ability and willingness to work long hours, including day, night, and weekend shifts as needed
- Ability to stand, walk, lift, reach, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb frequently
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including exposure to noise, vibration, dust, and job site hazards
- Ability to perform physically demanding labor tasks
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to safety, quality, and efficiency
Desired Qualifications
- Experience operating vac trucks, hydro excavation, or similar heavy equipment
- Knowledge of underground utility locating and excavation practices
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment issues
- Ability to read and understand utility markings and job site plans
- Familiarity with tablet-based reporting systems
