Job Summary
NOCTURNIST physician role providing direct inpatient care and medical management within the Hospital Medicine Department at Duke University Health System. Responsibilities include patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, disposition planning, and coordination of care; direct communication with patients, families, and referring physicians; daily rounds and care management with the care team; accurate clinical documentation to meet regulatory requirements; and teaching/educating medical trainees. Requires MD or DO with board eligibility/certification in internal medicine, active medical licensure in NC, and ABIM-recognized credentials. The position emphasizes collaboration, clinical excellence, and contributing to a positive, instructional clinical environment. Location: Duke University Hospital, Durham, NC.
Required Qualifications
- MD or DO degree
- Board eligibility or board certification in Internal Medicine
- Current unrestricted medical license in North Carolina or eligibility to obtain
- American Board of Internal Medicine certification/board eligibility
- Ability to perform MD/DO responsibilities including inpatient care, rounds, and teaching medical trainees
- Prescriptive authority in accordance with state/federal laws
- Capable of maintaining professional records and documentation as required by regulatory standards
- Strong communication skills (written and oral) and ability to collaborate with care teams
- Graduate medical education experience or ability to teach medical students/trainees
