Job Summary

Required Qualifications

• •Medication administration: 1 year
• •High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• •Ability to read and write affectively
• •Ability to read and interpret documents such as physician's orders, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• •Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
• •Ability to speak effectively before small groups of residents, family, staff or other health care professionals
• •Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers
• •Ability to apply learned judgment understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
• •Ability to deal with complex problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
• •Ability to lift, bend, stretch, squat, stand and other movements to perform general care giver functions and reach in confined spaces
• •Manual dexterity adequate for care procedures
• •Ability to read, comprehend, and follow written instructions and company policies
• •Basic fax / phone and computer knowledge
• •General knowledge of special diets (i.e., diabetic)
• •Knowledge of safe medication distribution
• •Ability to perform the 6 rights of medication distribution: RIGHT RESIDENT, RIGHT MEDICATION, RIGHT DOSE, RIGHT DATE & TIME, RIGHT ROUTE, RIGHT TO REFUSE
• •Ability to dispense medication in the appropriate manner to the medication cup – punch or pour into cup without touching medication
• •Ability to observe the medication being taken, observe resident swallowing medication, and offer glass of water with medications
• •Ability to follow-up on documentation for PRN medication given
• •Ability to document and sign-off medication 'given' or 'refused' on MAR with initials
• •Ability to check for expiration date of medications
• •Ability to order medications 10 days prior to being out of the medication
• •Knowledge of where medications are kept—locked controlled drugs, refrigerator, eye gtts, inhalers, ect
• •Knowledge that PRN medication are only to be given when specific RN direction and parameters are given
• •Ability to use the Drug Resource Book for information about each medication, including adverse side effect and information on administration of the medication
• •Knowledge that controlled drugs are kept locked and are counted at each change of shift
• •Ability to answer call lights in a timely manner (less than 2 minutes)
• •Ability to assess and respond to emergencies as needed
• •Ability to be aware of individual resident service plans and the services to be provided on a scheduled and on-call basis
• •Ability to report changes in resident conditions via the staff notes, communication book and incident reports
• •Ability to fill in MAR and or task sheets before leaving the shift
• •Ability to maintain confidentiality of staff, residents, and company
• •Ability to attend staff meetings and in-service meetings
• •Ability to take vital signs: BP, TEMP, PULSE, and RESPIRATION and document accordingly
• •Knowledge of measures and weights: cc's, ounces, pounds, etc
• •Ability to report verbally and in writing, on individual resident's abilities and potential changes to the service plan
• •Ability to assist other departments as needed to ensure a safe working environment is maintained
• •Ability to present oneself in an orderly professional manner
• •Willingness to adapt to the changing demands of this position
• •Helpfulness and politeness to residents, family and health care professionals
• •Understanding of Sweet Bye N Bye's Code of Conduct
• •Working knowledge of Resident's Rights and Responsibilities
• •Ability to stand; walk, use hands to fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear
• •Ability to occasionally sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• •Ability to occasionally lift and/or move residents weighing in excess of 100 pounds with appropriate assistance equipment
• •Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
• •Ability to work in confined spaces
• •Ability to communicate with and relate well to elder population
• •Good time management skills
• •Knowledgeable regarding medication administration practices
• •Must be able to lift 50 lbs
