Job Summary
Coordinate the school's athletic program by attending all meetings, contests, and home games, or appointing a representative. Enforce state and county rules, verify student academic eligibility, and manage the athletic budget. Arrange transportation, inspect facilities for safety, and schedule practice areas. Assist faculty with pre-game entertainment and supervise uniform maintenance. Interpret athletic association regulations and consult the Supervisor of Interscholastic Athletics when needed. Establish training rules including concussion awareness in cooperation with coaching staff. Manage locker room procedures and ensure building grounds meet safety standards.
Required Qualifications
- Hold, or be eligible for, a Maryland State Teaching Certificate
- Have a minimum of 5 years of successful teaching working experience at the middle school level
- Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrate management, leadership and human relations skills
- Demonstrate ability to exercise good judgment in making decisions
- Demonstrate proven ability to carry an assignment to its completion
- Have thorough knowledge of county and state rules, policy and procedures as they relate to athletics and extra-curricular activities
- Have ability to work flexible hours
- State law requires that anyone hired after October 1, 1986, who will have contact with school children, must be fingerprinted and submit to a criminal background investigation
- Federal law requires that a new employee must complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) in person before beginning employment
- Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen
- Applicants are required to report all former employers in which you may have had direct contact with minors
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree is preferred
- Have a minimum of 3 years of coaching experience is preferred
