Job Summary
Hear cases in Criminal Initial Appearance Court, including conducting arraignments, and interpret, enforce, and carry out current laws. Exercise the same powers and duties as a Judge of the Superior Court in assigned cases with the same jurisdiction. Present statements of fact and law through clear communication and logic in written and oral form, while defining issues, performing legal research, and analyzing problems to make appropriate findings and recommendations. Work part-time, 42 hours per two-week pay period, covering overnight shifts from 6:30 pm to 6:30 am including weekends and holidays.
Required Qualifications
- United States Citizenship
- Resident of Maricopa County at the time of appointment
- Good moral character
- Duly licensed member of the State Bar of Arizona
- Resident of the State of Arizona for a period of not less than five years immediately preceding appointment
- Admitted to the practice of law in the state of Arizona for not less than five years immediately preceding appointment
- No disciplinary matters pending before the State Bar Disciplinary Board
- At least 30 years of age
- Knowledge of legal principles and precedents and their application
- Knowledge of the statutory and constitutional law of the State of Arizona
- Knowledge of Criminal and Constitutional Administrative Law
- Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships
- Skill in using logic and reasoning to evaluate and choose between conflicting alternatives based on partial or incomplete information
- Ability to present statements of fact and law through clear communication and logic in written and oral form
- Ability to define issues, perform legal research, analyze problems, evaluate and make appropriate findings and recommendations
- Ability to speak clearly and hear
- Ability to see details of objects that are less than a few feet away
- Ability to sit for long periods of time
- Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, use hands to finger handle or feel
- Ability to reach with hands and arms
- Ability to occasionally push, pull or lift up to 20 pounds
- Availability to work part-time, 42 hours per two-week pay period
- Availability to cover overnight shifts from 6:30 pm to 6:30 am
- Availability to work including weekends and holidays
- Ability to exercise the same powers and duties as a Judge of the Superior Court in assigned cases, with the same jurisdiction
