Job Summary
Own and evolve backend systems for scalability, reliability, and developer experience while leading core data model work. Reduce tech debt and improve critical paths by building tooling for content creation, project automation, validations, and documentation. Collaborate end-to-end with product, frontend, and non-technical teams including support and growth, while speaking directly with learners across 190+ countries. This role requires 6–10 years of engineering experience with first-principles product ownership on a 7-person seed-stage team. The position is full-time, on-site five days a week at West 6th Street in Austin, TX, with OPT sponsorship available. Compensation ranges from $130,000 to $150,000 plus competitive equity.
Required Qualifications
- 6-10 years professional engineering (Staff level)
- First/early engineer with 0-to-1 ownership
- Backend product engineer
- Austin 5 days in-person, West 6th Street
- Consistent scope and title progression over the past 5-10 years
- Owned a core product domain (data model, critical user flow, growth surface) end-to-end
- Proactively identifies product/system problems without being told
- Clear, measurable impact in previous roles
- Comfortable with ambiguity
- Cross-functional collaborator shipping with product and design under real constraints
- Pragmatic about tradeoffs: build vs. buy, boring tech, fast V1s
- Recent experience on small or early-stage teams
- Positive, practical AI adoption
- Based in Austin or willing to relocate
