Job Summary
Create and execute newscasts by partnering with News Managers and Anchors to showcase local, regional, and national content. Write copy for web and social platforms, edit video for playback and newscasts, and generate graphics, maps, and lower thirds. Participate in daypart editorial meetings to evaluate lead stories, collaborate with directors for clean production, and communicate with newsmakers to field viewer inquiries. Seamlessly move between formats while adding "happening now" live content and real-time social interaction to broadcasts. The newsroom operates 24-7, requiring presence during extreme weather events including hurricanes and tropical storms.
Required Qualifications
- Two years of newscast producing experience
- A positive attitude
- Willingness to learn
- Ability to collaborate
- An internship in a commercial newsroom
- A degree or intensive coursework in communications and/or journalism
- Knowledge of video editing and scripting software
- Experience with web and social platforms
- Must be present at the station before, during, and after a storm
Desired Qualifications
- Two years of newscast producing experience helpful
