Job Summary

News Producer responsible for the daily production and content of newscasts across broadcast and digital platforms. Responsibilities include producing FAST newscasts and specials, writing news scripts, promos, teases, headlines and topicals; editing video with non-linear software; assigning stories and specifying angles; conceptualizing set graphics and blocking; executing live shots; responding to breaking news with accuracy and urgency; staying informed on local San Diego news; contributing story ideas and participating in editorial meetings; researching assigned stories; writing text articles and publishing video clips and still photos for the website; executing publishing workflows for video, images, and text including social publishing; managing video livestreams; and performing related duties. Requires strong AP style writing, ability to manage multiple stories simultaneously, and a commitment to newsroom priorities. On-site full-time role in San Diego with salary range $70,500-$85,000 and benefits.

Required Qualifications

  • minimum of 2 years of experience as a broadcast producer
  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism or related field
  • at least one year prior news editing experience
  • ability to work on multiple tasks and stories simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • ability to react to breaking news, update stories, and write intros/leads to online video content
  • Demonstrated knowledge of AP style writing and guidelines
  • Must submit a resume/CV through the NBCUniversal careers site
  • Must be willing to work on-site at the San Diego station
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to work any of a 24x7 shift
  • Must submit a sample of own work to be considered
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
