Job Summary
Manage all aspects of daily news coverage by assigning and tracking news crews, identifying and developing daily content, and writing for various newscasts. Listen to scanners and react decisively to breaking news by making beat checks, monitoring websites and social media, and developing contacts for enterprise story ideas. Post content to the station website and social media sites while assisting in the efficient operations of the assignment desk. This full-time role requires working nights and weekends and demands calm communication under pressure.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of one (1) year of assignment desk experience
- Commitment to journalistic standards of ethics and accuracy
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Basic computer knowledge/word processing skills
- General knowledge and interest in local, national, and world news
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Proficiency with Facebook, Twitter, and emerging social media
- A Bachelor's degree with a major in journalism
- This position is full-time
- This position will require working nights and weekends
