Job Summary
Anchor assigned weekend newscasts and lead breaking news coverage from the desk and field. Report, shoot, write, and edit original stories for broadcast, digital, and social platforms while developing sources and generating enterprise story ideas for Acadiana. Deliver live reports, ad-lib during unscripted situations, and conduct interviews with a wide range of sources. Write clear, accurate, and compelling copy on deadline, participate in daily editorial discussions, and produce content for digital and social platforms to engage viewers. Represent KATC professionally at station-sponsored and community events while maintaining high journalistic and ethical standards.
Required Qualifications
- Previous professional television news experience
- Strong on-air presentation skills
- Ability to communicate naturally and confidently
- Demonstrated reporting, writing and storytelling ability
- Strong news judgment
- Understanding of what makes a story relevant to a local audience
- Ability to shoot, write and edit stories independently
- Ability to work effectively as a multimedia journalist
- Ability to ad-lib effectively
- Ability to remain composed during breaking news and other unscripted situations
- Experience with live reporting
- Experience with breaking news coverage
- Demonstrated ability to develop sources
- Demonstrated ability to generate original story ideas
- Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines
- Ability to manage multiple assignments
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Understanding of digital journalism
- Understanding of social media
- Understanding of multiplatform storytelling
- Flexibility to work weekends
- Flexibility to work holidays
- Flexibility to work other shifts as news coverage requires
- Valid driver's license
- Satisfactory driving record
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or a related field
- Equivalent combination of education and professional experience
