Job Summary
Establish optical integrity standards and define assembly procedures for inside-the-box architectures, including fiber trays, flyover cables, and Co-Package Optics. Architect end-to-end cleaning, handling, and inspection protocols using IEC criteria to ensure zero-defect ports leave vendors or contract manufacturers. Lead deep-dive technical audits of supplier facilities, assessing laser burn-in processes and cleanroom discipline while vetting emerging interconnect solutions like Active Copper and next-gen DSPs. Define incoming quality control gates and execute qualification plans involving thermal cycling and connector mating-cycle endurance. Serve as final technical authority for optical performance data, approving test reports before shipment. This role requires approximately 30% travel and supports the transition of complex optical portfolios to global manufacturing execution.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years in Hardware Engineering or Optical Product Engineering
- Experience specifically with high-speed (400G+) transceivers and cables
- Expert-level knowledge of optical connector types (MPO, LC, EBO)
- Expert-level knowledge of fiber physics
- Expert-level knowledge of transceiver architectures (QSFP-DD, OSFP)
- Experience with high-speed switches
- Proven track record of auditing vendors
- Proven track record of establishing factory-level optical test methodologies
- Proven track record of transitioning complex lines to overseas Contract Manufacturers
- Proficiency with optical scopes
- Proficiency with bit error rate testers (BERT)
- Proficiency with automated fiber inspection systems
- Proficiency with product fixturing
- BS/MS in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
