Job Summary
Conduct hands-on emergency medicine training through a six-month immersive program, working 3-4 hospital shifts weekly alongside experienced mentors for real-time case guidance and feedback. Perform procedures including abdominal, thoracic, and cardiac point-of care ultrasound, flexible GI endoscopy, and small animal emergency surgery while earning over 160 RACE-approved CE hours. Engage in weekly didactic learning, literature reviews, and case discussions to transition from a practicing veterinarian into a full-time ER doctor at VEG hospitals. Commit to a rotating schedule covering days, swings, nights, weekends, and holidays, with all required certifications and relocation support provided.
Required Qualifications
- A valid DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree
- Be a practicing veterinarian for 1+ years
- A valid license to practice veterinary medicine
- A valid DEA registration in the state you will be completing your program by your start date
- Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and work on the floor
- Ability to lift up to 25 kg on own
- Ability to support up to 40 kg with assistance
- Must be willing to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or as needed basis based on hospital needs
- Work well in a fast-paced environment with people from all backgrounds and different personality types
- Can commit to a predetermined schedule for a consecutive six-month period
- Relocation for the NERD program may be required
