New ER Doctor (NERD) Program: Starts April 2027, Practicing Veterinarians - Falls Church, VA

Job Summary

Conduct six-month immersive training transitioning from practicing veterinarian to full-time emergency doctor through hands-on mentorship, real ER case participation, and weekly case discussions. Perform abdominal, thoracic, and cardiac point-of-care ultrasounds, flexible GI endoscopy, and small animal emergency surgeries while earning over 160 RACE-approved CE hours. Work three to four hospital shifts weekly across days, swings, and nights, managing clients and pets in an open-concept environment with rotating weekend and holiday coverage. Maintain BLS Rescuer CPR certification and RECOVER ALS certification, all provided at no cost.

Required Qualifications

  • A valid DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree
  • Be a practicing veterinarian for 1+ years
  • A valid license to practice veterinary medicine
  • A valid DEA registration in the state you will be completing your program by your start date
  • Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and work on the floor
  • Ability to lift up to 25 kg on own
  • Ability to support up to 40 kg with assistance
  • Must be willing to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or as needed basis based on hospital needs
  • Work well in a fast-paced environment with people from all backgrounds and different personality types
  • Can commit to a predetermined schedule for a consecutive six-month period
  • Relocation for the NERD program may be required
