Job Summary
Conduct hands-on instruction on foundational driving techniques, close quarters maneuvering, and backing for new drivers. Deliver classroom-based training on FMCSA regulations, company safety policies, Hours of Service recording via ELD, and Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports. Utilize learning stations and telematic tools to ensure students understand essential driver knowledge and safe decision-making. Coordinate onboarding support with appropriate departments and complete daily proficiency documentation for each student. Provide evaluations of driving techniques and basic comprehension upon instruction completion. Maintain Professional Truck Driver Institute and Commercial Vehicle Training Association standards while engaging in ongoing education to meet state post-secondary requirements.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years' OTR experience
- Class A CDL driver qualification
- Fewer than 3 moving violations within a 5 year period
- Fewer than 2 suspensions within 3yrs
- No history of a DUI or DWI within the last 5yrs
- Fewer than 2 preventable accidents within 5 yrs
- Ability to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) road test
- Appropriate state certification as a CDL Examiner
- Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- Ability to work in all types of weather conditions
- Ability to be on feet on hard surfaces for majority of shift
- Ability to handle changing priorities
- Exceptional communication skills
- Self-motivation
- Engagement in ongoing education relating to teaching skills
- Maintenance of Professional Truck driver Institute (PTDI) and Commercial Vehicle Training Association (CVTA) standards
- Completion of a minimum of two American Association for Vocational School modules annually
- Authorization to work in the U.S.
