Neutron Mechanical Development Intern

Job Summary

Develop composite structure designs and manufacturing techniques for the Neutron launch vehicle by producing required documentation for primary and secondary structures. Support testing efforts and apply hands-on manufacturing skills to assist prototype development while collaborating with engineers across multiple departments. Contribute innovative ideas during team meetings and process test results using Python or Matlab. This internship is based in Auckland, starting November 2026, with a focus on real space technology projects and mentorship from industry professionals.

Required Qualifications

  • Enrolled in their 3rd or 4th year of a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronics or Aerospace)
  • Mechanical Design – CAD as well as hand calcs
  • Hands on manufacturing skills – metal machining, soldering
  • Basic knowledge of harnessing and electrical signals
  • Data processing of test results in Python or Matlab
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Passion for aerospace, space technology, and innovation
  • U.S. citizen, lawful U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State and/or the U.S. Department of Commerce, as applicable
  • Eligible to access equipment and data regulated by the United States' International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
  • Citizenship of Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, the European Union, or a country that is part of NATO

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of sensors
  • Part of a University Project team (eg FSAE, Rocketry Team, Rover Team)
  • Test Engineering experience
  • Previous internship or project experience in composite structures or aerospace
