Job Summary
Neurosurgery-focused Advanced Practice Professional (NP or PA) provides medical and surgical management of neurosurgery patients in the ED and OR under the supervision of an attending Neurosurgeon. Responsibilities include performing comprehensive history and physical examinations, admission notes, daily progress notes, orders and rounds, ED consults, discharge planning, and attending at least 75% of Trauma Performance Improvement meetings and Neurosurgical Section meetings. The role requires physician-dependent practice, collaboration with the neurosurgery team, on-call duties (7p–7a), and credentialing through MMC. Candidates should hold a Master’s-level degree (NP: MS in Nursing with ANCC/ACNP board certification; PA: MPAS/MHS/MMSc with board certification) and be able to perform or assist with pre/post-operative patient education, documentation, and coordination with OR scheduling. BLS certification and demonstrated experience with EMR (PowerChart) are preferred; on-going credentialing and licensure in Michigan are required. Required Qualifications
- Licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in Michigan or Physician Assistant in Michigan
- Master of Science in Nursing (NP path) with ANCC/ACNP board certification or equivalent for NP; or MPAS/MA/MSMS for PA with board certification as a Physician Assistant
- Two years of clinical practitioner experience in neurosurgery or related field preferred
- Ability to perform comprehensive neurological exams and advanced diagnostic/therapeutic tasks related to neurosurgery under supervision
- Ability to obtain clinical privileges through MMC credentialing processes
- Proficient in documentation, communication with physicians and OR scheduling
- On-call availability and participation in ED/trauma rounds
- BLS certification and ongoing licensure/certification maintenance
- Vaccination or approved exemption per Munson Healthcare policy
- Experience with EMR systems (PowerChart) preferred
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced neurosurgical environment
- Master's-level degree in nursing (for NP) or MPAS/MMSc/MHS for PA
