Job Summary

Design harnessing for connected trailer and vehicle products, routing connectors and selecting wire gauges to balance electrical requirements with manufacturability. Design and test electronic enclosures for environmental sealing, thermal management, and mechanical durability, validating against real-world vibration, shock, and ingress conditions. Review mechanical products for robustness, providing design-for-manufacturing feedback across the portfolio and partnering with electrical and software teams to ensure clean system integration. Lead root cause analysis of mechanical failures and warranty claims, investigating returned units to identify underlying causes and drive corrective actions to closure. Create and maintain documentation including CAD models, drawings, and test reports to support production and supplier communication. Work on-site in Madison, Indiana, reporting to the Director of Engineering.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
  • demonstrated experience in mechanical design
  • structured risk analysis
  • engineering drawings
  • tolerance analysis
  • strong understanding of design for manufacturability and assembly
  • knowledge of common materials and manufacturing processes such as injection molding, machining, PCB assemblies, fasteners, and seals
  • experience taking a product from concept through prototype, testing, and validation
  • strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering disciplines
  • a willingness to work on-site in Madison, Indiana

Desired Qualifications

  • experience in the U.S. automotive or commercial vehicle industry
  • a strong understanding of vehicle electrical systems, including wire harness design and connector applications
  • Familiarity with environmental and durability testing standards, such as SAE J1455, ISO 16750, and MIL-STD-810
  • experience with vibration, shock, thermal, and ingress-protection testing
  • Experience investigating field failures or warranty returns and applying root cause analysis to drive corrective actions
  • knowledge of electronics packaging, including PCB assemblies, connectors, sealing methods, and potting processes
