Job Summary
Network & Systems Engineer (Cisco) – Sydney / Field-Based. The role focuses on Cisco networking with some exposure to Linux systems administration; involves hands-on support of live infrastructure across data centres and customer sites, ensuring high availability, performance and reliability. Travel between data centres and customer sites is required; Australian Citizenship is essential due to customer site access requirements. Key responsibilities include configuring and supporting Cisco-based LAN/WAN networks, troubleshooting incidents, monitoring performance and capacity, managing VPNs and firewalls, conducting root-cause analysis, supporting Linux system tasks, and contributing to documentation and improvements. The candidate should have 2–5 years in network engineering or support, strong Cisco experience, knowledge of TCP/IP/DNS/DHCP/VPNs, experience with monitoring tools (Splunk, Nagios, Prometheus), and scripting exposure. English fluency and a driver’s licence are implied by travel requirements.
Required Qualifications
- 2-5 years’ experience in a Network Engineering or Network Support role
- Strong hands-on experience with Cisco networking (routing, switching, VLANs)
- Good understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and network security principles
- Experience in incident management and troubleshooting in live environments
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Splunk, Nagios, or Prometheus
- Basic scripting exposure (Bash or Python) highly desirable
- Some exposure to Linux systems administration (RHEL preferred) is a bonus
- Australian Citizenship (mandatory)
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel between customer data centres/sites
