Job Summary
Network Maintenance & Construction Technician III in Ketchikan, AK responsible for professional installations and servicing of telecommunications solutions (video, high-speed data, and voice) in residential and commercial settings; oversee aerial & underground construction, heavy equipment operations, and cable splicing (copper, fiber, coax); perform submarine cable system support and OTDR testing; ensure safety and quality control, system integrity, and preventive maintenance; lead QA initiatives, mentor junior technicians, and coordinate with dispatch; perform field engineering tasks, troubleshooting, and documentation; require extensive experience in NEC/NESC/OSHA/FCC standards, travel within Alaska, and capable of operating heavy machinery; advanced role with leadership responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a technical telecommunications role
- At least six (6) years of experience in heavy equipment operation and excavation
- At least six (6) years of experience in cable splicing
- At least six (6) years of experience in power supply maintenance
- At least six (6) years of experience in the installation, reconfiguration, and maintenance of fiber optic transport equipment
- At least six (6) years of experience in aerial and underground construction, including cable fault location testing
- Certification in NAZ power safety training or obtain certification within one (1) year of hire
- Travel requirements: Must possess a current passport
- May be required to successfully complete specific certifications and training courses within a designated timeframe
- Driving requirements: valid driver's license; may be required to obtain CDL within six months
- Background checks as applicable within ninety days of hire or regulatory changes

- Travel may be required to perform work in other systems throughout the state
- Drug testing and safety compliance as per DOT or contract requirements
