Network Fiber Technician - Outside Plant - Ann Arbor, MI

Job Summary
Terminate, splice, bond, ground, document, and test all fiber optic cables within network systems to ensure maximum operating efficiency. Perform setup, testing, and maintenance for Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) installations including POTS, DSL, and networking services. Install and maintain LANs, WiFi networks, network interface devices, and optical network terminals while executing skilled troubleshooting from the Main Distribution Frame to the demarcation point. Respond to trouble tickets within acceptable timeframes and install Outside Plant facilities according to engineered work orders. Conduct routine preventive maintenance, major repairs, and fiber testing while locating cabling and recording all record changes immediately. Complete inventory replenish requests as needed and perform on-call rotation duties after regular business hours.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- One to two years in the telecommunications industry or related experience
- Physical ability to work in various conditions including, but not limited to adverse weather conditions
- Physical ability to work from a kneeling or standing position for long periods of time
- Physical ability to climb ladders with proper equipment up to 25 feet
- Able to lift and carry loads of up to 75lbs including ladder
- Ability to work with basic hand tools and other specialized equipment with training
- Operate and maintain company vehicle/equipment safely and professionally including a Department of Transportation (DOT) certified bucket truck and trailer
- Ability to work other duties as assigned
- Available to travel for training as needed
- Ability to work other duties as assigned
- Perform on-call rotation duties after regular business hours as needed
- Available to work overtime when deemed necessary, may include holidays and weekends
- Willingness to work as a team and independently
- DOT Certification
- OSHA Certification
Desired Qualifications
- Some trade school training is desired
