Job Summary
Network Engineer I for on-site support at federal research facilities in Missoula, MT. Responsible for help desk intake, ticket tracking, resolution and escalation, assisting users with network access issues (account unlocks, password resets, onboarding), performing routine patching and OS updates for servers, workstations, and infrastructure devices in compliance with ATO requirements, conducting trouble isolation and root-cause analysis, monitoring network infrastructure (NAS, UPS, switches, wireless APs, servers), supporting log audits and inventory maintenance, notifying stakeholders of outages, assisting with documentation updates (VLAN assignments, IP records, system diagrams), and contributing to vulnerability scanning/remediation under senior guidance. Required qualifications include U.S. citizenship, eligibility for a Public Trust background investigation, an Associate's degree in a related field (or equivalent experience), 2+ years of IT support or network operations experience, knowledge of Windows Server/Active Directory and basic networking concepts, and certifications including or enabling within 90 days of start (CompTIA Network+ and CompTIA Security+). Preferred qualifications include prior government IT experience and familiarity with vulnerability scanning tools and Cisco technologies. This is an on-site full-time role with standard business hours and occasional after-hours work.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Security Clearance: Must be eligible for a federal Public Trust Background Investigation
- Associate's degree in Information Technology, Network Engineering, or related field (relevant certifications and/or equivalent work experience will be considered in lieu of degree)
- Minimum 2 years of IT support, network operations, or systems administration experience
- Working knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, and standard network troubleshooting
- Familiarity with patch management, ticketing systems, and OS update processes
- Basic understanding of networking concepts including VLANs, IP addressing, and DNS/DHCP
- CompTIA Network+ (required or must obtain within 90 days of start)
- CompTIA Security+ (required or must obtain within 90 days of start)
- On-site full-time position located in Missoula, Montana
- Emergency after-hours availability and occasional travel may be required
