Job Summary

Network Engineer, Advanced Networking role within an MSP/Managed Services context focused on escalation and advanced configuration across client networks. Responsibilities include troubleshooting firewall, VPN, VLAN, switching, wireless, and routing issues; maintaining firewall environments; configuring switches and wireless networks; monitoring networks and responding to alerts; supporting network projects; conducting network assessments for end-of-life or misconfigurations; creating accurate network documentation and topology; coordinating with vendors on RMAs and troubleshooting; adhering to change management, documentation, and security processes. Preferred qualifications cover MSP experience, familiarity with monitoring tools (Auvik, Meraki Dashboard, SonicWall NSM), vendor certifications (SonicWall, Meraki, Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto, etc.), and strong communication, documentation, and customer-facing skills. The role emphasizes security and data confidentiality, requires the ability to work independently and with cross-functional teams, and is fully remote within the United States with no visa sponsorship available.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience working in an MSP or multi-client environment
  • Experience with network monitoring tools such as Auvik, Meraki Dashboard, SonicWall NSM, or similar platforms
  • Experience supporting vendors such as SonicWall, Meraki, Cisco, Ubiquiti, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Extreme, or similar platforms
  • Experience performing firewall reviews, switch audits, wireless assessments, and firmware upgrade planning
  • Certifications such as Network+, CCNA, Meraki ECMS, SonicWall SNSA, Fortinet NSE, or other network-focused certifications preferred
  • Experience assisting with network documentation standards, topology diagrams, and client environment reviews
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to clearly explain network issues, risks, and recommendations
  • Strong attention to detail when documenting configurations, changes, and troubleshooting steps
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating with service teams, project teams, vendors, and clients
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues from start to finish
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Customer-focused mindset with a professional and helpful approach
  • Willingness to follow standards, processes, and change management requirements
  • Firewalls: rule management, NAT, VPNs, firmware updates, access control, and basic security hardening
  • Switching: VLANs, trunking, access ports, PoE, spanning tree, port security, and switch firmware maintenance
  • Wireless: SSIDs, access point placement, channel planning, signal coverage, firmware updates, and performance troubleshooting
  • Routing: static routes, basic dynamic routing concepts, gateway configuration, and network segmentation
  • VPN: site-to-site VPNs, client VPNs, authentication methods, and tunnel troubleshooting
  • Core networking: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, ARP, ICMP, subnetting, and network troubleshooting
  • Monitoring: network alerting, uptime monitoring, performance monitoring, and device health review
  • Documentation: network diagrams, device inventories, IP schemes, VLAN tables, firewall notes, and topology documentation
  • Vendor support: opening cases, gathering logs, coordinating RMAs, and working through vendor troubleshooting steps
