Job Summary
Design and support custom-built, multi-asset class applications using Microsoft C#, .NET Core, and Web API, with a focus on Angular front-end and relational databases like Oracle or SQL Server. Engage with business analysts to define requirements, perform analysis, planning, and design for new applications and enhancements, while adhering to company standards for documentation, testing, and peer reviews. Maintain development infrastructure, source code repositories, and continuous build/deployment facilities, contributing to evolving the architectural road map and release procedures. Work across the Trade Operations IT Delivery Team to deliver business value through innovation and robust, long-term solutions within the energy commodity trading environment.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years' of experience in design and implementation of bespoke software solutions
- Previous experience in a development role working closely with both IT and business customers
- Experience in coding, testing, debugging and documenting applications
- Experience with deploying changes all the way to production
- Experience in designing and building distributed systems using Microsoft C#, .NET Core and Web API
- Experience working with relational databases such as Oracle or SQL Server
- Basic front end web development experience or keenness to learn Angular, Typescript, JavaScript, HTML/CSS
- Experience working with code repositories such as Git
- Strong academic background, educated to degree level and / or equivalent professional qualification or relevant business experience
- Excellent interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork and facilitation
- Excellent analytical and technical skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills and proven ability to translate business needs into clear and comprehensive solution design requirements
- Capacity to understand business-processes quickly
- The ability to communicate complex subjects at different levels (e.g. to traders, IT developers, senior managers)
- Attention to detail and strong focus on accuracy of information
- Able to multitask, switch focus and prioritise own tasks under pressure
- A passionate and versatile technologist with a strong interest in energy commodity trading
- Experience in enhancing and fixing existing applications and writing new ones with Angular front end (React is considered) and C# .Net backend
- Experience in assisting with the analysis, planning and design of the new applications and enhancements to existing ones
- Experience in maintaining the development infrastructure required by the above tools
- Experience in ensuring maintenance of the source code repository, continuous build and deployment facilities
- Experience in keeping abreast of industry technological developments and identifying opportunities to implement new frameworks, technologies, and tools
- Experience in contributing to improving EDF Trading development processes
- Experience in participating in evolving the architectural road map
- Experience in engaging with the business or business analysts to assist them in defining requirements and forming solutions
- Experience in working with Senior developers and wider team members to contribute to EDFT IT technology stack and development process such as release procedures and continuous integration
- Experience in using technology appropriately and flexibly, taking into consideration the company's strategy and recommendations
- Experience in adhering to the company's standards and best practices, including, but not limited to, documentation, testing and peer reviews
Desired Qualifications
- Any exposure to application containerisation and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes would be highly beneficial
- Any experience with Cloud technologies such as Azure or Aws will be desirable
