Job Summary
Build and maintain trust-based relationships with people impacted by the toxic drug supply while conducting outreach to identify emerging needs and share resources. Coordinate Peer Advisory meetings and contribute lived experience perspectives to monthly Community Action Team (CAT) discussions. Support harm reduction activities, including overdose prevention, supply distribution, and public education on drug toxicity risks. Manage peer compensation records, maintain documentation of engagement activities, and submit regular timesheets. Participate in community events and advocacy initiatives aligned with the Nanaimo CAT's mandate to reduce drug toxicity harms. Work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, within diverse community environments.
Required Qualifications
- Lived or living experience related to substance use and/or the toxic drug crisis
- Experience in peer support, harm reduction outreach, or community-based work
- Knowledge of harm reduction, trauma-informed practice, and equity-based approaches
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse partners
- Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities
- No formal education requirements; lived and living experience is recognized as essential
- Flexible schedule, including some evenings or weekends
- Exposure to environments impacted by substance use and drug toxicity
