Job Summary

Conduct daily vessel maintenance, assist with docking and mooring, and ensure passenger safety through constant situational awareness, lifeguarding, and first aid administration. Deliver place-based interpretive experiences covering Hawaii's geology, ecology, and culture while managing guest check-in, waivers, and supply logistics. Perform community outreach and conservation activities as directed. Work long days (12+ hours) in hot, humid conditions aboard a moving vessel, requiring physical stamina for lifting, climbing, and extended standing. Obtain required certifications including CPR, lifeguarding, and food handlers within three months of hire.

Required Qualifications

  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • Lifeguard certification
  • Oxygen and AED certification
  • Hawaii Food Handlers Certification
  • Maui Bar Card
  • TB clearance
  • Strong swimmer
  • Ability to free dive to 30 feet
  • Ability to bend and safely lift up to 35 lbs to a height for 3 feet and carry 30 feet
  • Ability to team lift over 35 lbs with at least one other person
  • Ability to ride on small transport vessel in rough, bumpy seas
  • Ability to climb from small transport vessel onto main vessel in moving seas
  • Ability to stand for extended periods on a moving vessel
  • Ability to perform frequent bending and squatting
  • Ability to climb and crawl into/within/out of small spaces on the vessel
  • Ability to lift, carry, throw, pull, coil, and secure lines
  • Experience with marine education and interpretation
  • Extensive hands-on experience in the marine industry
  • Working knowledge of marine science and Hawaiian wildlife
  • Familiarity with Native Hawaiian culture, mo'olelo, and place-based knowledge of Maui and its nearshore waters
  • A water person at heart with genuine day-to-day connection to Maui's ocean
  • Ability to comply with DOT/USCG random drug testing requirements
  • Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification, oxygen/AED certification, lifeguard certification, Hawai'i bar card, and TB clearance within 30 days of employment

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in boating, ocean recreation, fishing, or tourism in lieu of formal education
  • Lifeguarding experience
  • A can-do attitude and flexibility to adapt to ocean conditions
  • Ability to shift gears quickly and solve problems on the fly
