Job Summary
Conduct daily environmental field monitoring along the US/Mexico border, collecting data on nesting birds, state and federally listed plants, and wildlife to support compliance with project best management practices. Document potential non-compliance, mark off avoidance areas for sensitive resources, and provide daily environmental field notes with photographs. Communicate with construction personnel, government agencies, and stakeholders while maintaining a clean driving record for field travel. Perform pre-construction surveys as needed and work independently in inclement weather or steep terrain. This full-time, one-year government project requires a BS in biological sciences and two years of prior construction site monitoring experience.
Required Qualifications
- BS in biological sciences or related field
- Previous environmental monitoring at construction sites work (two years)
- Willingness to work in inclement weather conditions (extreme heat, rain, or cold)
- Ability to traverse steep terrain in some locations
- Ability to work independently
- Requirement to be in the field every weekday for one year
- Familiarity understanding taxonomy and good plant identification skills for areas along the U.S. Mexico Border
- Familiarity with environmental monitoring at construction sites
- Detail-oriented with mechanical aptitude and hands-on trouble-shooting/problem-solving skills
- Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently as well as with supervision
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Clean driving record
- Ability to pass a federal background check for this project-based assignment
- Ability to pass a drug test
