Job Summary
The Natural Resources Field Technician Lead will oversee a two-person team for field-based data collection and sampling in remote locations. Responsibilities include leading vegetation sampling, ensuring data accuracy, adapting to challenges in the field, and coordinating with other teams. Candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree in relevant fields, experience working outdoors, leadership skills, and the ability to operate 4WD vehicles in rugged terrain. The role involves significant travel, working 10-12 hour days on an 8 days on/6 days off schedule, and upholding safety protocols.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in botany, rangeland science, biology, natural resource management, soils, ecology, or closely related field
- Ability to lead a team and be entrusted with autonomy to make critical decisions in the field
- Demonstrated aptitude in leadership and working in remote, outdoor environments
- Ability to navigate effectively with maps, GPS devices, and offroad vehicles
- Valid driver’s license and experience safely operating 4WD trucks
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check
Desired Qualifications
- 3 years of relevant experience demonstrating proficiency in leadership, problem-solving, and outdoor work
- Familiarity with NRCS's National Resources Inventory (NRI) methodology and/or BLM's Assessment, Inventory, and Monitoring (AIM) protocols
- Experience identifying plants using a dichotomous key and describing soil horizons
- CPR/First Aid certified
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check
- Proof of citizenship will be required as a condition of employment
- Candidates may be required to obtain and hold a Secret or Higher US Government Clearance
