Job Summary
Conduct daily environmental field notes with photographs regarding compliance with project best management practices and collect data for listed species surveys. Perform pre-construction surveys for nesting birds and state/federally listed plants, marking off avoidance areas to protect sensitive resources. Communicate with construction personnel, government agencies, and stakeholders to report potential non-compliance. Operate a truck for driving on the project area while documenting detailed environmental information using GPS and tablets. Work independently in inclement weather and steep terrain along the US/Mexico border in Yuma, Arizona.
Required Qualifications
- BS in biological sciences or related field
- Previous environmental monitoring at construction sites work (two years)
- Willingness to work in inclement weather conditions (extreme heat, rain, or cold)
- Ability to traverse steep terrain
- Ability to work independently
- Field presence every weekday for one year
- Effective written/verbal communication skills
- Organization/analytical skills
- Experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports
- Familiarity understanding taxonomy
- Good plant identification skills for areas along the U.S. Mexico Border
- Detail-oriented
- Mechanical aptitude
- Hands-on trouble-shooting/problem-solving skills
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to travel
- Valid driver's license
- Clean driving record
- Ability to pass a federal background check
- Ability to pass a drug test
Desired Qualifications
- Experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports (a plus)
