Job Summary
National Security M&S Analyst at APL to develop, configure, and execute simulation-based analyses using frameworks such as AFSIM; translate real-world operational questions into simulation scenarios; evaluate system performance and force interactions in contested environments; collaborate with multidisciplinary teams; and document methodologies and results to support decision-making. Role requires modeling expertise, strong analytical skills, ability to communicate findings to varied audiences, and eligibility for U.S. security clearance. Must hold a bachelor’s degree in a technical field and have at least three years of relevant modeling and simulation experience, plus scripting (e.g., Python). Location is Laurel, MD with in-person work; salary range is $100,000–$245,000 annually with potential for additional compensation and benefits.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field
- At least three years of relevant experience in modeling and simulation, operations analysis, or related analytic work
- Experience applying simulation tools to analyze complex systems or operational scenarios
- Familiarity with one or more M&S frameworks (e.g., AFSIM, STK, NGTS, STORM, or similar)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in translating real-world problems into structured analysis
- Ability to communicate technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Basic scripting or programming experience (e.g., Python) to support analysis workflows
- Ability to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by start date and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI level clearance
- Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship
- Direct experience using AFSIM for mission-level analysis (preferred)
- Experience building and connecting MBSE tools to M&S (preferred)
- Experience supporting DoD or IC analytic efforts or wargaming environments (preferred)
- Familiarity with scenario development, force modeling, and campaign-level analysis (preferred)
- Experience working in multidisciplinary analytic teams (preferred)
- Experience briefing analytic results to senior stakeholders (preferred)
