Job Summary

Provide high-quality policy advice, analytical support, and thought leadership on macroeconomic policy and development issues for UNDP Somalia. Analyze economic and development data, generate strategic inputs for UNDP documents (CCA, UNSDCF, CPD), produce economic reports (including National Human Development Reports), and advise government counterparts. Build strategic partnerships, support resource mobilization, and contribute to policy advocacy for inclusive sustainable growth and human development. Collaborate across UNDP units and with regional and external partners to ensure programs align with national priorities and strengthen Somalia’s economic, development, and social agendas.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Economics or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years (with Master’s) or 7 years (with Bachelor’s) of relevant experience at the national or international level
  • Experience in research and policy-level analysis
  • Experience in design, monitoring and evaluation of development projects
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, ERP, and statistical analysis tools
  • Fluency in English; Somali language is required for local staff
  • Experience in macro-economic policy analysis and poverty reduction
  • Experience in providing economic advice and producing research papers
  • Experience analyzing macroeconomic policies and their impact on development outcomes
  • Resource mobilization experience is an asset
  • Knowledge of SDGs and development policy frameworks
  • Ability to build partnerships with UN agencies, IFIs, government, private sector, and civil society
  • Capacity to deliver policy briefings and reports for stakeholders
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience with data management and data-driven analysis
  • Strong communication and advocacy skills
  • Training and capacity-building experience for government officials and UNDP staff
  • Knowledge facilitation and cross-functional collaboration

  • Experience delivering policy advice and analytical support to senior management
  • Knowledge facilitation and cross-functional collaboration
  • Experience with data management and web-based management systems
