Job Summary
Design the electrostatic drive stack and field-effect sensor for a nanoscale actuator, validating dielectric reliability and resolving nanometer-scale motion. Define the full device stack including patterned electrodes and high-k dielectrics, then direct fabrication at cleanroom partners using electron-beam lithography. Characterize finished devices on the bench by measuring voltage–displacement response, reversibility, hysteresis, and force via single-molecule AFM. Ensure the measurement toolchain accurately resolves the quantities being measured. This full-time role reports to Dr. Jeremy Barton, focusing on building world-class public goods for an AI-driven future.
Required Qualifications
- PhD or MS in electrical engineering, applied physics, materials science, or a related field, grounded in semiconductor device physics
- Experience with high-k dielectrics and thin-film stacks
- FET or biosensor charge sensing
- low-noise electrical measurement
- Cleanroom process design
- working familiarity with electron-beam lithography (running or directing fabrication)
- Comfort at the bench with nanoscale electromechanical characterization
- Ability to partner closely with molecular-design and controls colleagues on a tightly integrated device
- This position is on site at our office in Emeryville, CA
- Some travel may be required from-to-time for in-person collaboration and work
