Job Summary
Lead the alto or soprano section of the volunteer adult choir at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Flower Mound, TX, by attending weekly ensemble calls on Sundays and Thursdays alongside scheduled solo Cantor duties. Assist volunteer choristers by teaching notes and rhythms during rehearsals, ensuring high musical preparation and execution while maintaining professional tone projection and blend. Prepare music by the next rehearsal and participate in additional paid singing opportunities for weddings and funerals as assigned. This role requires moderate supervision of volunteers and involves night, weekend, and holiday activity with expected at-home practice. Applicants must demonstrate a high level of musical skill, strong sight-reading, and experience in liturgical or classical settings.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to stand and sing for lengthy periods of time during rehearsals and liturgies
- Will require night, weekend, and holiday activity
- At-home (off-clock) music practice and preparation is expected
- Limited travel to other Diocese locations possible
- This position will require an audition
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in voice (performance or education), either complete or in progress
- Previous choral experience in a liturgical or classical setting
- Strong sight-reading skills
- Experience or proficiency in singing music of Roman Catholic patrimony, namely Renaissance polyphony and Gregorian Chant
- Experience working with amateur and professional musicians
- Practicing Catholic is preferred but not required
