Job Summary
Plan and lead weekly music residency sessions in NYC public schools using singing, movement, percussion, and collaborative music-making. Teach grade-appropriate lessons from the Discover Music curriculum or develop Percussion lessons focused on bucket drumming and ensemble performance. Adapt instruction for diverse learning needs in collaboration with classroom teachers and school staff. Prepare students for culminating performances and program showcases while managing materials and equipment. Complete required documentation including photos, attendance records, and student reflections. Participate in curriculum meetings and professional development. Arrive prepared for each residency and communicate consistently with 92NY staff and partners. Teaching occurs during regular school hours from October 2026 through May 2027, with per diem compensation of $113 per class session.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music, or a related field
- 3-5 years of experience teaching music in NYC public schools or comparable educational settings
- Strong foundation in elementary music education, rhythm instruction, and percussion
- Current fingerprint clearance through the New York City and New York State Departments of Education
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with classroom percussion, world percussion, Orff-inspired pedagogy, bucket drumming, or related approaches
- Experience adapting instruction for students with disabilities and diverse learning needs
- Strong classroom management, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Ability to teach from a pre-developed curriculum while remaining flexible and responsive in the classroom
- Spanish language proficiency and/or experience working with multilingual learners
- Applicants should be available for professional development and planning meetings with 92NY staff in September/October 2026
- Teaching takes place during regular school hours, 8:00 AM–2:30 PM, with occasional after-school hours, 2:30–5:00 PM, from October 2026–May 2027
- Residency sessions typically consist of 45-minute class periods
- Teaching Artists may lead one to six classes during each school visit, with schedules determined by school assignment
- Assignments may take place in Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Manhattan, with priority given to candidates available to teach in Queens and Brooklyn
