Job Summary
Music Teacher role at Uncommon Schools overseeing middle school music with a program grounded in Orff and Kodaly approaches. Responsibilities include implementing network curricula to meet music standards, teaching singing, movement, instrumental work (recorder, Orff instruments, drumming), developing music literacy through rhythm and pitch notation, planning performances, coordinating with enrichment staff, designing assessments, supporting daily school operations, curriculum collaboration, and fostering strong classroom management. Requires at least a bachelor’s degree in music-related field, experience teaching music to elementary-aged students, familiarity with Orff/Kodaly pedagogy (training preferred), and strong communication. Compensation ranges from $50,000 to $64,700 for full-time instruction with comprehensive benefits; location is Seneca Falls, NY (US).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Music, Music Education, or Performance
- Experience teaching general and vocal music to elementary-aged children
- Kodaly and Orff approaches experience or training preferred
- Ability to manage large groups of students
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Piano and vocal proficiency; knowledge of recorder; basic guitar
- Experience in urban public or charter school settings preferred
- Demonstrated self-motivation and teamwork
