Job Summary

Music teacher for a middle school at Uncommon Schools, implementing the Orff and Kodaly approaches and delivering general and instrumental music across K-12 education. Teach music content (singing, dance, movement, instrumental instruction with recorder and Orff instruments), develop music literacy lesson components, assess progress toward standards, collaborate with enrichment staff and leadership to plan multiple performances, participate in curriculum development, manage classrooms effectively, communicate with students, families, and colleagues, and engage in staff orientation and ongoing professional development.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Music in Music, Music Education or Performance
  • Experience teaching general and vocal music to elementary aged children
  • Experience with the Kodaly and Orff approaches; Levels training in one or both pedagogies is highly preferred
  • Ability to manage and direct large groups of students
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Piano and vocal proficiency, knowledge of recorder, basic guitar
