Job Summary
Coordinate music ministry for all parish liturgies, including leading choirs, selecting music, and managing rehearsals for weddings, funerals, and seasonal celebrations. Educate the parish on liturgical music and Vatican II principles by training clergy, leading workshops, and serving as a resource for the Liturgy Commission and religious education staff. Oversee administrative functions such as creating music policies, formulating budgets, maintaining the liturgical music library, and managing sound equipment and instrument inventories. Direct the implementation of diocesan guidelines and coordinate with maintenance, school, and religious education personnel to ensure seamless liturgical celebrations.
Required Qualifications

- Ability to instruct, organize and enable
- Broad-based knowledge of liturgical theology and history
- Membership in professional organizations
- Attendance at national and area conferences and workshops
- Involvement in deanery and Diocesan networks of professional peers
- Ability to foster good public relations within and outside the parish
- Ability to discern parish worship and prayer needs
- Ability to implement liturgical celebrations and prayer services in the spirit of Vatican II
- Ability to direct the process of liturgy preparation with staff and planning committees
- Ability to serve as a resource or liturgical consultant for Faith Formation Director, school faculty and all parish groups
- Ability to make the final liturgical judgment along with the Pastor
- Ability to ensure that the liturgical norms and laws of the church (including Diocesan regulations) are followed
- Ability to prepare Presider's Book and scripts for all liturgical celebrations
- Ability to communicate with ushers, Altar Servers, Readers about all ritual aspects of celebrations
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in voice, conducting, and the instruments upon which the musician is expected to perform
- Experience researching, developing, and mastering new music
- Educational advancement in musical skills that relate to the parish's need (e.g., organ, choral directing, vocal pedagogy)
- Current knowledge of official statements and documents on music, liturgy, and developments in the pastoral field
- Experience studying various liturgical and musical publications
- Experience in fostering and developing the musicianship of parish music ministers and clergy
- Experience coordinating workshops and concerts
- Experience recruiting, scheduling, and rehearsing various music ministries (e.g., choirs, cantors, instrumentalists)
- Experience planning liturgy (working with the priests and Liturgy Commission) including leading the Liturgy Commission
- Experience securing proper copyrights for all worship participation aids
- Experience working with the Director of Religious Education and education staff in the preparation of children's liturgies
- Experience meeting with engaged couples for the preparation of wedding liturgies and preparing music for funeral liturgies
- Experience making liturgical music policies in conjunction with the Liturgy Commission and pastoral staff
- Experience formulating a music budget for the parish worship program
- Experience developing and maintaining a liturgical music library of various styles and genres
- Experience maintaining the parish's musical instruments
- Experience making recommendations for the purchase of new instruments, sound equipment, hymnals and music supplies
- Experience overseeing operation and maintenance of church sound system
- Experience serving as leader of Liturgy Committee under the direction of the Pastor
- Experience overseeing the implementation of recommendations/changes as set forth by the Pastor
- Experience serving as the parish contact with the Diocesan Office of Liturgy
- Experience assisting with planning/scheduling of all liturgical celebrations and prayer services
- Experience overseeing coordination of all persons involved in liturgical ministries: sacristans, altar servers, ushers, ministers of hospitality, readers, Ministers of Holy Communion
- Experience maintaining current records on all liturgical ministers
- Experience communicating with all whose work affects or is affected by liturgical celebrations: maintenance staff, school personnel, religious education personnel, parish organizations, etc.
- Experience overseeing the scheduling of all liturgical ministers
- Experience processing all invoices involving ministers attending Diocesan workshops (i.e., Readers, EMHCs)
- Experience initiating the formation and overseeing the implementation of Diocesan and parish policies and guidelines concerning liturgy
- Experience in the preparation of children's liturgies
- Experience in the preparation of wedding liturgies
- Experience in the preparation of funeral liturgies
- Experience in the preparation of Presider's Book and scripts for all liturgical celebrations
- Experience communicating with ushers, Altar Servers, Readers about all ritual aspects of celebrations
