Job Summary
Oversee cleanliness, sanitation, and upkeep of the museum space by performing daily custodial duties, routine maintenance tasks, and responding to on-demand cleaning and light repair needs. Conduct regular cleaning of all areas including restrooms, floors, exhibits, play spaces, and offices; remove trash, disinfect high-touch surfaces, spot-clean spills, and maintain restroom supplies. Perform weekly deep cleaning on installations, furniture, and educational tools, while assisting with event setup and breakdowns. Monitor trash levels, organize janitorial supplies, and address urgent cleaning requests from staff. Work flexible weeknights and weekends between Wednesday and Sunday to support the museum's mission of engaging children and families through playful learning.
Required Qualifications
- Prior custodial, janitorial, or porter experience
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, child-focused environment
- Strong attention to detail
- Commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards
- Comfort with physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
- Availability for evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as needed
- Capability to lift at least 25lbs
- Ability to move about the facility while completing cleaning tasks, utilizing machinery, and carrying appropriate tools and products
- Ability to stand extended periods of time
- Ability to communicate via telephone, video conference, email, and in-person
