Job Summary
Guide visitors through the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum and Oasis Trail using gallery carts and objects to interpret tribal history and culture. Facilitate educational tours, workshops, and lessons for school-age students, adult learners, and special group tours. Assist with the planning, coordinating, and day-of execution of school and public programs, including weekend, evening, and outreach initiatives. Provide a welcoming presence for all guests while collaborating with Education and Public Engagement staff to support departmental initiatives. Work with Visitor Services to ensure positive experiences for museum visitors and diverse populations.
Required Qualifications
- High school degree or GED
- Flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings
- Must have a clear understanding and respect for the culture of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians and the mission of the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum
- Able to work with large number of children, parents, chaperones, teachers visiting the museum or at an off- site educational event
- Able to work with large number of adult tour groups visiting the museum
- Ability to function in a high energy team environment
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education or equivalent
- Experience in a formal or informal educational setting (volunteer experience included)
- A declared interest in and enjoyment in working with/teaching children and families to create a positive museum experience
- Experience teaching utilizing classroom/group management skills
- Knowledge of tribal communities and governments, including familiarity with the location, geography, history and key personnel at Indian tribes in the region
- Ability to work with diverse populations and communities
- Familiarity with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other office programs
