Museum Curator Position

Job Summary
Conduct inventory of museum artifacts and collection storage areas, unpacking, identifying, cataloging, and repackaging items using preservation standards. Photograph artifacts for digital records and support collection digitization efforts while maintaining accurate documentation and collection records. Handle historical artifacts carefully to ensure long-term preservation, working with staff on special projects and following established management procedures. Maintain organized work areas and ensure proper storage of artifacts. This role supports the U.S. Navy Seabee Museum in Port Hueneme, California, focusing on improving access to the historic collection through inventory management and digitization.
Required Qualifications
- Experience working with museum collections, archives, or historical artifacts
- Knowledge of museum collection management standards and preservation practices
- Experience with digital photography for documentation purposes
- Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Acrobat Professional
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively with museum staff and visitors
- Able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform activities such as standing, bending, climbing ladders, and walking throughout the workday
- U.S. Citizenship
- Ability to work on-site at the U.S. Navy Seabee Museum
- Local travel, if required, will be within a 50-mile radius of the museum
