Job Summary
Conduct road and roadside maintenance, including winter sand/salting, snow removal, and vegetation clearing. Operate heavy equipment such as plow trucks, loaders, and chainsaws to repair surfaces, replace signs, and clean culverts. Perform daily greasing, cleaning, and minor mechanical repairs on assigned vehicles while reporting defects to the Fleet Foreman. Adhere to Health and Safety policies and respond to emergency calls across a 40-hour week, Monday through Sunday, with after-hours availability as required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid DZ license with a clean drivers abstract satisfactory to the Corporation
- Secondary School Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
- Two (2) or more years experience in winter sand/salt and snowplow operations
- Ability to perform winter sand/salt and snowplow operations on a 24-hour call-out basis
- Two (2) or more years experience in road maintenance operations
- Ability to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis
- Ability to work shift work and overtime as required
- Ability to perform manual labour duties
- Ability to perform the physical job requirements
- Experience in the proficient operation of single and tandem axel plow trucks with pumps, sander, tanker bodies, dump bodies, snow plough and wing attachments, front-end loaders, sidewalk plows, limb chipper, chain saws, weed trimmers and quick-cut saws
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations
- Current WHMIS certificate
- Current First Aid certificate
- Current CPR certificate
- Current MTO Traffic Control (Book 7) certificate
Desired Qualifications
- Working knowledge of GPS, GIS, and electronic work order systems
