Job Summary
Answer phones, greet customers, and respond to inquiries while posting payments and bonds. Process traffic citations, parking citations, and other complaints as directed by the Municipal Court Judge. Issue court notices and summons, prepare materials for the judge's review, and serve as courtroom clerk during sessions. Accept payments at the clerk window for fines and appearance bonds, maintaining accurate records for court, docket, fee, and receipt files. Prepare and process case files for various proceedings, forwarding notices and entering actions into the electronic court management system. Perform administrative tasks requiring discretion and knowledge of municipal court operations, communicating procedures clearly to attorneys, defendants, and the public.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Two years (2) of clerical experience in a customer service environment
- Active Level I Court Clerk Certification or ability to obtain certification within eighteen months (18) of hire date
- Knowledge of municipal court processes and procedures, as well as pertinent Federal, State and local laws
- Ability to communicate court procedures and processes in a clear, concise, and comprehensive manner to attorneys, defendants, and the public
- Demonstrate the ability to interact tactfully and courteously with the public
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees and departments
- Experience with standard office equipment and tasks including, but not limited to, computers, phones, document scanners and scanning, data entry, and court software
- Occasional travel is required for training and continuing education purposes
- Must be able to work in occasionally stressful situations
- Bend or stoop to retrieve files or office materials weighing up to 30 pounds
Desired Qualifications
- Preference may be given to applicants with at least one or more years of municipal court experience
