Job Summary
Perform field inspections for residential and commercial construction projects to verify code compliance across building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and energy codes. Inspect work at various stages, identify and explain code violations, and issue correction notices. Review plans in the field for consistency with permitted scope, document results in the permitting system, and maintain records. Investigate complaints, coordinate with Code Enforcement and Fire officials, provide technical guidance to contractors and the public, and issue enforcement actions such as stop work orders when needed. Maintain current certifications with ICC and applicable codes, and participate in training to stay aligned with evolving standards. All other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate degree in construction management, building inspection technology, engineering technology, or related field preferred
- Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in residential and/or commercial construction, building inspections, code enforcement, or a closely related field; municipal inspection experience preferred
- Possession of, or ability to obtain within one year, a Plumbing Inspector’s license from the TSBPE
- Possession of, or ability to obtain within six months of employment, ICC certification as Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, Residential and/or Commercial Inspector
- Possession of, or ability to obtain within one year, one additional ICC certification as Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, Residential and/or Commercial Inspector
- Knowledge of adopted building and construction codes (IBC, IRC, IECC, NEC, NFPA, ANSI) and municipal policies
- Bilingual (preferred)
