Job Summary
Research, shoot, write, voice, and edit high-impact news stories for daily broadcasts under tight deadlines while managing social media channels and interacting with viewers. Write, package, and optimize breaking news stories and creative digital extras for the station's website and mobile platforms. Gather and verify factual information by developing reliable community contacts, conducting field interviews, and reviewing public records. Operate field live transmission units and gather high-quality visuals and natural sound. Participate in daily editorial meetings to pitch unique story ideas and discuss priority placement with news managers. Requires a Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, proficiency with non-linear video editing, and a valid driver's license. Includes nights, weekends, and holidays, particularly during severe weather emergencies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or a related field of study
- Expert proficiency with non-linear video editing (Adobe Premiere or Bit Central)
- Professional broadcast field cameras
- Flawless grasp of AP writing style, grammar, and syntax across digital and on-air copy
- Strong on-camera presence
- Clear vocal delivery
- Proven ability to effectively ad-lib during breaking news or live field reports
- Ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities
- Work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, particularly during severe weather emergencies
- A valid driver's license
- A clean driving record
- Must be able to lift, carry, and maneuver up to 30 pounds of field video equipment
- Willingness to conduct field reporting in various outdoor weather conditions
