Job Summary
Operate MRI equipment to produce diagnostic images under Radiologist direction while positioning patients, administering contrast media, and monitoring procedures via direct contact or closed-circuit TV. Access and update patient medical records, input physician orders, and educate patients on radiation and magnetic field safety protocols to reduce anxiety. Maintain patient confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines, practice universal safety precautions, and collaborate on quality assurance activities including HCAPPS surveys. Manage supply ordering within budget parameters and complete annual competency assessments. Work full-time 36-hour shifts with rotating call rotations at St. James Hospital in Butte, Montana.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree (AA) or diploma from a two-year college or technical school or minimum 6 months related experience and/or training
- ARRT (R)
- Additional Certification in at least one other modality within 18 months of hire
- BLS within 60 days of hire
- Current Montana Licensure
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
- Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Current ARRT certification
- Current Montana State Licensure or eligibility to obtain
- Current BLS certification endorsed by the American Heart Association
- Additional certification, within 18 months of hire
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy
- Ability to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients
- Ability to bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment
- Ability to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment
- Ability to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time
- Ability to appropriately access, manage and accurately update patient medical records through Hospital Electronic Medical Record Information Systems
- Ability to input Physician's orders appropriately to patient's records
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality as outlined by privacy and HIPAA guidelines
- Ability to practice according to the ARRT Standards of Ethics
- Ability to educate, interview, screen and explain imaging and safety procedures to patients regarding the biological effects of radiation and/or magnetic field protection and safety
- Ability to position patient on imaging table and utilize immobilization devices as warranted for safety or to obtain optimum views of specified areas of the body
- Ability to administer contrast media orally or in intravenous administration according to Radiologist and/or Pharmacy guidelines
- Ability to monitor patient during procedures either through direct contact, by the use of two-way voice communication or through control room window and/or closed circuit TV screen
- Ability to practice universal safety precautions, radiation protection techniques and magnetic field education to minimize exposure to patient, self and staff
- Ability to perform and provide evidence of ongoing quality assurance activities and collaborate and participate in quality review with others to evaluate the quality of care, performance and patient satisfaction
- Ability to be fiscally responsible for supply ordering according to established par and budget levels and the posting of correct procedure charges
- Ability to participate in and ensure continuing education activities as supported and value-added to the current position are continually completed to maintain competency and quality of patient care
- Ability to complete position specific competencies annually
- Ability to provide input in the evaluation of diagnostic imaging students in a timely, fair and objective manner according to established performance criteria
- Ability to float to other departments (within scope of competency and qualifications) based on business need
- Ability to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift
- Ability to be available to work as scheduled and report to work on time
- Ability to be available to work overtime, if needed
- Ability to be willing to accept supervision and work well with others
