Job Summary

Inspect and troubleshoot gasoline and diesel internal combustion engine powered vehicles, air compressors, generators, and hydraulic systems. Perform repairs including engine tune-ups, electrical system fixes, brake adjustments, and body panel work, while fabricating equipment modifications like brackets and racks. Conduct preventative maintenance such as lubrication and oil changes, then test drive vehicles to diagnose issues and verify repairs. Maintain a complete set of heavy equipment repair tools and work outside standard hours for weather-related operations or emergencies. Requires a valid Class D driver's license and two years of automotive repair experience.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Class D Driver's License for use in Massachusetts
  • Two years of acceptable experience in a full-time position involving the repair and maintenance of automotive engines and other vehicle or equipment components
  • Thorough knowledge of the tools, equipment, and techniques used in motor equipment repair, including diagnostic equipment
  • Experience and working familiarity with welding equipment and techniques
  • Ability to interact with people on an up-beat and friendly basis, regardless of circumstances
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs from floor to chest height
  • Must be available for work outside of repair working hours in support of weather-related City operations or for other emergency needs

Desired Qualifications

  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License for use in Massachusetts
  • Valid Hydraulic Engineer license 1C, 2A, 3A, and 4E
