Job Summary
The Patient Services Advocate will be responsible for completing the patient registration process for dental services by collecting demographic information, determining appropriate fees and collection of payment, and serving as a liaison between dental students and patients. Duties include interviewing patients to document demographic information, reviewing HIPAA policies, determining fees for uninsured/self-pay patients using a sliding fee scale, verifying insurance and collecting copays, referring patients for funding options, managing electronic schedules, confirming appointments, handling calls, filling broken or cancelled appointments, recording no-shows and late arrivals, verifying Medicaid and ME codes, and performing related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2 years experience in a health care setting or related field; dental experience strongly preferred
- 2 years experience in customer service
- Knowledge of third party reimbursement
- Good computer skills including the use of word processing and e-mail software
- A test will be given
- Good oral and written communication, customer service, organizational and mathematical skills
- Capable of making bank deposits
- Ability to use a 10 key calculator and credit card machine
- Ability to accurately register and interview clients
- Ability to read and interpret materials
- Ability to use initiative; be detail oriented, and flexible
