Job Summary
Senior Mortgage Review Officer responsible for performing pre-funding quality reviews of mortgage files to ensure compliance with risk policies and to identify trends for service improvement. Key duties include reviewing mortgage files prior to funding for retail lending compliance, escalating material deficiencies to leadership, ensuring adherence to policy and procedural standards, producing regular reporting on reviewed mortgages, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of mortgage policies, and providing detailed reporting on creditworthiness and trends. The role requires expert understanding of retail lending policies, regulatory compliance (privacy, KYC, AML), experience with SMA/HFA/Branch processes, CMHC/Sagen/Canada Guaranty mortgage insurance, and strong communication skills for collaboration with internal teams and external bank departments. Educational requirements include economics or business-related degree or college diploma with 2-4 years of industry experience, and the ability to function independently with guidance from senior leadership as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or college diploma in Economics, Business or related field OR equivalent experience
- 2 to 4 years of industry-related experience in mortgage lending or credit analysis
- Experience adjudicating retail loans, mortgages and small business credit
- Strong understanding of retail lending policies and regulatory/compliance requirements (privacy, know-your-customer, AML)
- Experience with mortgage adjudication processes and third-party originations
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
- Proficiency with PC tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Knowledge of MIMs, Scotia Home, CIS and related Bank systems
- Ability to work independently and with senior leadership on reviews
